Commitment, what does it mean for your player?

posted Feb 8, 2018, 5:48 PM by Hampshire Board

One of the questions we get a lot is about the commitment that is expected for each player.

How many practices are there?
When and how often do games occur?

There isn't an exact science and we typically leave the number of practices up to the coaches. We will say that the number of practices and the time for each practice will increase as your player grows.

For Example:

U8-U10 age group, they will practice 1-2 times a week with games occurring only on Saturdays
U11-12 age group, they will practice at least 2 times a week for 1-1.5 hours each time and will play games on Saturdays
U13+ age groups, they will practice ideally at least 3 times per week for 1.5-2hrs each practice, and will play games on Saturdays

These are just recommendations, based on the time needed to develop a specific age group and the attention span for the age group.

Hampshire is joining the Roots Soccer League for Spring 2018

Spring Soccer Registration is OPEN!

The biggest change you will see is the format for the younger ages. For U8 it will be 5 v 5 and U9 and U10 it will be 7 v 7. We believe that this will allow for more touches and will increase soccer skills. We will still be using Labrie Field, or Westfield as our home field and will travel to many of the same local fields (Agawam, Westfield, Amherst, Northampton....) We believe this is a good and exciting change for Hampshire United Soccer, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to us - The Board of Hampshire United
